On this day I surprisingly managed to make significant progress with his assignments using pencil. I am referring to my 3 year old. He usually prefers colouring projects to pencil work. But on this day he was compliant! Wow! I even took a picture to celebrate this victory. It’s one of those ta da!!! moments in the life of a parent. It may be fleeting but hey! we made some progress didn’t we?
At a point, I realised when he made an error and I prompted him, he would acknowledge it was incorrect and then proceed on his own to erase it.
He started I believe to intentionally make mistakes just for the fun of erasing and rewriting it out. “We won’t make much progress if this continues,” I thought to myself. I remembered a teacher once told me that once the kids see erasers they intentionally make mistakes just to enjoy the magic of the eraser.
It cast my mind back to God. He sent his Son while we were YET sinners to “erase” our sins. Yet the world is still filled with sinful acts being committed on a daily basis. Is this because like my son sees his eraser, we believe we have an ever forgiving Father who will “erase” our sins forever and ever? But isn’t that disrespectful? I mean just picture yourself for a humble moment as God. That is even too farfetched!
“There will certainly be trials and temptations and some falls but we are certain to overcome when we leave the uncontrollable aspects to God and focus on what we can do with our God-given strengths.”Tweet
Imagine you have a friend who always hurts you and you keep forgiving him, at a point you would feel you are being taken advantage of by your friend and probably give up on him or her. That is how we are treating God, we are not paying any reverence or showing any remorse or appreciation when we repeatedly and intentionally continue to commit the acts we always go back to Him to ask forgiveness for!
Imagine if like the eraser it (by this I am referring to forgiveness) eventually wears off from constant erasing and even the page of the book which is like an account of your life becomes worn out and torn from your constant erasing.
(Spend some few minutes to think about this before continuing with the read)
But the GOOD NEWS is that the love of God never wears out and each day we still have a clean sheet. Why don’t you show your appreciation, love and reverence for God by erasing your mistakes only when you genuinely commit it and agreeing to make a commitment from this day onwards not to take undue advantage of the LIMITLESS LOVE God has for you!
There will certainly be trials and temptations and some falls but we are certain to overcome when we leave the uncontrollable aspects to God and focus on what we can do with our God-given strengths. Don’t live a life of intentional sin just because when we go down on our knees we will be forgiven. In my opinion that is DISRESPECTFUL!
