DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.

Life is complicated, life is like a complex maze. People have found it easier to navigate through the maze and it’s been relatively difficult for some people. Both of these categories of people would either try to share how you could go through the maze easily like they did, or on the other hand, painful lessons you should not follow. These people may have good intentions, and you may definitely need the counsel and push at some points. But, almost, always definitely, decide to do only what makes you happy.

Everyone tries to tell you what they think can work for you or what they think can make you fit in, but do we need that?? In a world filled with expectations, obligations, and societal pressures, it’s crucial to remember that your happiness matters. As an individual, you deserve to live a life that brings you joy and fulfillment. By doing what makes you happy, you not only benefit yourself but also those around you. Your happiness is not selfish; it’s a vital ingredient for a meaningful and rewarding life. So, take the time to reflect on what truly brings you happiness and make a commitment to prioritise it in your daily life. You owe it to yourself to live a happy, fulfilling life.

Sometimes, choosing you means hurting other people, but inasmuch as it is nice to extend grace to others and make everyone feel loved and accepted, we often try to please people while turning a deaf ear to our pleas or what we truly need or desire. Been a people-pleaser and constantly trying to meet the expectations and demands of others only leaves you to your doom. Your life becomes a never-ending cycle of doing things for everyone else, while your own happiness remains a distant dream.

Sometimes, you have to cast aside the expectations of the world and deliberately do what brings you joy. In the end, we realise that the secret to a fulfilling life lay not in the pursuit of others’ expectations but in the deliberate choice to do things that brought us joy.

Happiness, when found within, could light up not only our lives but the lives of all those we come across. A saying by Cory Allen summarizes this piece:

Redefine yourself often. You don’t have to stay stuck in the story of who you are just because it is what other people are comfortable with. Follow what feels right, shed your old layers, and embrace the meaningful things that makes you stay alive.
